Sasq'ets Classic

The Derby

The format

Caught, kept,weighed in

This is a weigh-in derby. Fish during the posted hours, keep the fish you want to enter, and get it to the scales at the marina before they close. Photos don’t count, and released fish don’t count.

Weight decides every board. Trout and walleye are each scored in their own division, and bass and sturgeon are optional sidepots on the side. Youth and adults are scored separately in all of them.

Awards are at the Pavilion after the last scale closes. You don’t have to be there to win, but it’s worth sticking around for.

  • Eligible fishTrout, Walleye, Bass & Sturgeon caught during derby hours. Redband must be released.
  • Scales close12:00 PM. You have to be in line with your fish by then. No exceptions.
  • What scoresWeight. The heaviest fish takes the board in each division.
  • TiesIf two fish weigh the same, the longer one wins. If they match on length too, the prize money gets split.

Walleye

Its own board, paying the same places as trout: a base prize plus a share of the entry-fee pool.

Sidepot

Bass

Optional, and you enter it separately from the divisions. One winner takes half of the entry money paid into the bass sidepot.

Sidepot

Sturgeon

Optional, and you enter it separately. One winner, paid out the same way as bass.

Youth and adults are scored separately in both divisions and in every sidepot. Youth prizes are a flat amount. Adult places get a base prize plus a share of the entry-fee pool.

Prize pool

Funded by every entry

In the Adult division, trout and walleye each have their own pool, and a set share of every entry sold goes into them. Each pays the places below: a guaranteed base prize plus a share of that pool, so the pots grow as more anglers enter. Youth and the sidepots are paid differently, below.

Getting on the board

You can enter online before the event, or in person at the marina on the morning of day one. Licenses get checked at in-person entry, so have yours before you show up. Don’t plan on buying one at the ramp.

Rules of the water

Break any of these and the fish is disqualified. Depending on the rule, the angler can be too. If anything here doesn’t match what an official tells you at the ramp, go with the official.

On the water

  • All WDFW rules for Lake Roosevelt apply, including daily limits per species.
  • You can fish from a boat or from shore.
  • Every fish weighed has to be caught during the posted fishing hours on a derby day.

Licenses & permits

  • Unless you're an enrolled Spokane Tribe member, you need a current WDFW license. Your derby entry doesn't count as a license to fish.
  • That includes fishing from the Spokane Reservation shoreline.
  • Enrolled Spokane Tribe members don't need a state license. Give your enrollment number when you register and bring your tribal ID to check-in.
  • Keep your license or tribal ID on you the whole time. They get checked at in-person registration and again at the scales.

Boats & transport

  • Clean, drain and dry every watercraft, kayaks and paddleboards included.
  • Drain all water from the boat, live wells included, before you move it.
  • Out-of-state boats have to be inspected before launching.
  • Fish are harvested before the weigh-in. You need a separate permit to move live fish.
